As you might know, we started moving some of the community conversations from our walled Slack group, which served us well during all this time, to this community forum. This forum encourages deeper and slower conversations and is open to the web, meaning anyone can search and find topics from this forum using their search engine.
As you might have noted, the forum resembles Swift’s. That’s because it’s powered by the amazing open-source project Discourse. Discourse’s open-source and extensible nature allows it to adapt to the community’s needs in ways that would never have been possible with Slack, which favors building walls over embracing standards and supporting communities.
One of our community’s needs is to receive updates about the important things happening in Tuist land. Since most of the Swift community has emigrated to Mastodon, we thought it’d be very cool if they could receive the updates from their Mastodon client of choice. So, guess what? We just integrated our Announcements topic with ActivityPub, which means you can receive new posts from your Mastodon client.
All you need to do is to follow [email protected].
We’ll continue using Slack but gradually nudge the community to use this forum as the source of truth for meaningful conversations. We’ll also take care of syndicating and giving people the option to subscribe to the topics they are interested in the most.
Let’s pause for a second… imagine being able to subscribe to Slack channels from X. It’s unthinkable, right? That’s the beauty of standards and a wall-free Internet that we believe in and that we are huge supporters of through our work.
Give us a follow there, and let us know if you’d like to subscribe to other topics of the forum. We’ll happily set those ones.
